Notice of Opening the Housing Choice Vouchers waiting list lottery.
Effective Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 9:00 am until Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 11:59 pm, Salem Housing Authority (SHA) will accept applications for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list lottery.
A pool of 5,000 applicants will be selected, by random lottery, to be placed on the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list after the application period closes.
You may apply at any time during the application window for the opportunity to be selected for the waiting list in the random lottery. Selected applications will be placed on the waiting list in their order of random selection. The date and time that submit your application does not affect selection in the lottery or placement on the waiting list.
A valid email address is required to apply. Applicants will be notified by email whether their application was selected in the random lottery.
Eligibility for the Housing Choice Voucher program is limited to households earning at or below 50% of the HUD Area Median Income Limit (effective April 18, 2022):

To apply to the lottery, visit https://www.salemhousingor.com/program-overview and click the “Apply Now” link. We encourage you to submit your application online to ensure that you receive notification by email after the lottery is completed. Paper applications are also accepted as a reasonable accommodation and may be requested by contacting SHA at housing@salemhousingor.com or (503) 588-6368.
Applications may only be submitted between May 6, 2023 at 9:00am and May 21, 2023 at 11:59 pm. Applications will not be accepted after the waiting lists close.
